RPG Dice Popper on Second Life Marketplace

Yeah, I know: nine years in the making! There's now a version 1.1 of the RPG Dice Popper. And still the same price, despite inflation! You can find it on Marketplace, and there's a free demo too (fully functional, but limited to 15 minutes).

-lou- RPG Dice Popper 1.1

If you aren't familiar, this is basically a spherical dice popper that offers four-, six-, eight-, ten-, twelve-, twenty-, and 100-sided dice (the latter in the form of two d10s). You can rez up to ten dice; it'll summarise rolls and totals. It's no-copy no-mod (long story) but you can rename it and resize it within the limits of SL physics. It's fun park size: about 2.75m across by default. It'll shrink to about half that, but it's not going to fit on your desk. Unless you're a giant. No disrespect to giants.

Comparatively little has changed in this version: it is not a complete rewrite, just a couple tweaks to make the popper more modern and fun:

  • Addressed a rare issue with rezzing dice. This wasn't easy to do! Only two people ever figured it out: you know who you are, pat yourselves on the back! It was actually the result of some Linden Lab changes but you know.
  • Added a PBR texture to the sphere (which…tripled the land impact. Thanks LL!). Added a projector light, activation lighting, and slightly tweaked dice textures to make things more obvious. Everything should look a little nicer.
  • The "random" dice colour selection should be much less likely to produce dice that are too dark to be read easily. (And there's a light now, so it's even easier to read dice, even in dark environments.)
  • Sounds! Several people have asked if the popper could make sounds when dice are rolled and when rolls resolve, and I said "Sure, I'll add that when I do an update!" See—I didn't forget! You can choose from five themes, and they're completely optional.
  • Fixed the updater. I know I promised "free updates" for life, but what I hadn't counted on was the Lindens changing communications in ways that broke the updater script. Best laid plans, right? This happened (many) years ago but because there'd never been an update it didn't matter…until now.

If you have an earlier version of the popper and would like the new one (it won't inform you of an update, see above), send me an IM or drop me a notecard and I'll whisk one over to you.
